Asthma Basics

Asalamalaikum Everyone

This is the first post in a new segment dedicated to sharing information about asthma. So if you or anyone you care about is living with asthma, then join in on the discussion!

Ill start off with a few basic points about asthma and through each latter post I will build up more information from there.

There is a common misconception that asthma is not a serious condition, i’ll dare you to say that to anyone that actually has it. Over 2 million Australians have asthma , on average 1 person dies from asthma related symptoms every day in Australia.

So what is asthma. Asthma is a chronic inflammatory condition of the airways in the lungs. It is a condition where the airways become so narrow that it makes it  difficult for air to move in and out of the lungs, making it difficult to breathe.

Asthma can affect people of all different ages and may occur across the lifespan. Unfortunately people with asthma miss more work, school and study than people who don’t have asthma.

Some common symptoms of asthma may include:

-Breathlessness

-Wheezing

-Tight Chest

– Cough

These symptoms may occur during the day or at night.

Its not all bad news, there are several ways to manage and control your asthma. Ill be going through some examples in my next post, so click that follow button below to stay updated. Until then check out the Asthma Australia website, they have a variety of helpful resources.
